I absolutely LOVE shampoo bars! They are so so great for the environment, save tons of space in my shower, and are so gentle on my scalp and hair!
Unlike traditional shampoo, shampoo bars are biodegradable, are not packaged in plastic, and are vegan as well as cruelty free. They also don’t contain any harsh synthetic chemicals or parabens that traditional shampoo contains.
When they first became a “thing”, they were mostly targeted toward women. Then our male counterparts got jealous and demanded they have some made especially for them. Now, it’s our kids’ turn!
Shampoo bars for kids are slowly emerging. And I hope that more companies help keep this trend going when it comes to our kids because it’s such a safer and healthier alternative—not to mention more eco-friendly. I myself am switching over to shampoo bars when it comes to our kids.
Our kids deserve the best! When you think about it, what we put on their skin matters—and synthetic chemicals are not that great for their skin; especially if your little one sufffers from eczema, acne, sensitive skin and other issues. And I’m sure that if you’re just like me, you hate having your bathtub cluttered with tons of bottles. Oh, that’s another great thing about switching to a shampoo bar for your little ones: they can double as a body wash, saving you space and money! Just make sure to dry them properly to keep them from getting gooey!
With that said, I did some research and found several brands that cater specifically to kids when it comes to organic shampoo bars. Each one is climate pledge friendly and contain organic ingredients that are vegan, natural and plant based. And as with all shampoo bars (depending on hair length) these can last up to 2 months!
Would you like to see how shampoo bars work? They truly do lather so easily. Below is a video of me trying out a shampoo bar sample by J•R•Liggett’s onto my 7 year old son’s hair. The bar itself smelled amazing like subtle coconut, and it produced a generous lather as soon as I wet it and rubbed it lightly into my son’s hair. His hair was so soft afterwards! The bar is all natural and doesn’t leave any greasy residue.
Ethique Shampoo Bar For Little Ones
I love that Ethique came out with a shampoo bar made especially for kids because they are such an awesome brand and they are devoted to combating plastic waste.
Their kids’ shampoo bar called “Oaty Delicious” is made from oats, cocoa butter, and oils consisting of chamomile, lavender and coconut. The bar is pH balanced, plant-based, vegan, cruelty free, compostable and of course, zero waste! It’s mild, has a subtle scent and is great for kids with eczema because it’s so gentle on the skin (it can double as a body wash).
The only issue with the Oaty Delicious bar that parents are having, is the small chunks of oats, which seem to get trapped within long hair. Nothing that a good rinse and comb can’t handle though. And if your child’s hair is prone to tangles, Ethique also makes hair conditioner bars for kids!
SHEA TERRA ORGANICS SHAMPOO BAR
This organic shampoo bar called “Bananas And Monkey Bread” by Shea Terra Organics is an all natural shampoo bar with special ingredients that are ethically and sustainably sourced from East Africa. The brand was started by a mom who homeschooled her 14 children and wanted to create an all natural product that would also help improve local economy.
”Since early 2000, Shea Terra Organics has been working with cooperatives and conservation groups to source natural, organic ingredients in a sustainable and ethical way that would create economic opportunities and preserve wildlife.” -Shea Terra Organics
The indigenous “super hero” ingredients consisting of Shea Nilotik Shea butter and baobab (monkey tree oil) make this bar especially gentle on the skin. And don’t forget about the banana fruit extract that makes this shampoo bar smell so good!
Reef Repair Shampoo Bar
Reef Repair shampoo bars are made for both kids and adults. This bar is all about the coconuts, and is infused with both essential coconut oil and cocoa butter.
The brand’s main focus is to protect and preserve our delicate coral reef—and this shampoo bar makes that possible. You can literally go snorkeling after having washed your hair with this shampoo and it won’t negatively impact the delicate eco-system.
The only issue I’m finding about the reef repair shampoo bar based on reviews revolves around lather. Particularly that this shampoo bar doesn’t lather “fast enough” for adults. However, for kids, it’s actually perfect because kids take baths and there’s no rush to work up a lather in a hurry; whereas in the shower where you’re trying to hurry up and work it in so that you aren’t wasting water.
DIRTY KIDS ORGANICS, LLC
Dirty Kids Organics—Such a fun name for a shampoo bar! This bar is a multi-use product that can double as face wash and body wash because it is so gentle! In fact, the company states that it’s great for baby cradle cap, eczema and acne prone skin. The Dirty Kids Organics shampoo bar is infused with Rosemary extract and contains soothing oils consisting of palm, coconut and sunflower.
PINK LEMONADE BY APPLE VALLEY NATURAL SOAP
Apple Valley Natural Soap makes amazing natural soaps and shampoo bars that are certified cruelty free. This particular soap bar is a favorite amongst kids and consists of organic ingredients and essential oils that create a delicious scent while leaving hair and skin clean and moisturized.
”This bar is for all pink lemonade lovers!. It’s sweet and bright, a great choice for normal to oily hair. It features rose kaolin clay which keeps skin hydrated, detoxifies, increases circulation, encourages new cell growth and reduces inflammation and irritation.” – Apple Valley Natural Soap
ESLA SHAMPOO BAR
The ESLA shampoo bar is full of natural extracts and organic ingredients like coconut oil, evening primrose oil, castor seed oil, olive oil, iris extract, centella extract and nettle extract. Hence, lots of good essential oils and extracts to help keep your kids’ hair moisturized!
This shampoo bar brand is fairly new and is one of many Trail Blazers that’s beginning their journey with what I can see as a top notch product. Hence, there’s not really anything to report yet (as far as negative experiences). So let’s try it for ourselves and see if it’s worth the buy!
