I absolutely LOVE shampoo bars! They are so so great for the environment, save tons of space in my shower, and are so gentle on my scalp and hair!

Unlike traditional shampoo, shampoo bars are biodegradable, are not packaged in plastic, and are vegan as well as cruelty free. They also don’t contain any harsh synthetic chemicals or parabens that traditional shampoo contains.

When they first became a “thing”, they were mostly targeted toward women. Then our male counterparts got jealous and demanded they have some made especially for them. Now, it’s our kids’ turn!

Shampoo bars for kids are slowly emerging. And I hope that more companies help keep this trend going when it comes to our kids because it’s such a safer and healthier alternative—not to mention more eco-friendly. I myself am switching over to shampoo bars when it comes to our kids.

Our kids deserve the best! When you think about it, what we put on their skin matters—and synthetic chemicals are not that great for their skin; especially if your little one sufffers from eczema, acne, sensitive skin and other issues. And I’m sure that if you’re just like me, you hate having your bathtub cluttered with tons of bottles. Oh, that’s another great thing about switching to a shampoo bar for your little ones: they can double as a body wash, saving you space and money! Just make sure to dry them properly to keep them from getting gooey!

With that said, I did some research and found several brands that cater specifically to kids when it comes to organic shampoo bars. Each one is climate pledge friendly and contain organic ingredients that are vegan, natural and plant based. And as with all shampoo bars (depending on hair length) these can last up to 2 months!

Would you like to see how shampoo bars work? They truly do lather so easily. Below is a video of me trying out a shampoo bar sample by J•R•Liggett’s onto my 7 year old son’s hair. The bar itself smelled amazing like subtle coconut, and it produced a generous lather as soon as I wet it and rubbed it lightly into my son’s hair. His hair was so soft afterwards! The bar is all natural and doesn’t leave any greasy residue.

This shampoo bar brand is fairly new and is one of many Trail Blazers that’s beginning their journey with what I can see as a top notch product. Hence, there’s not really anything to report yet (as far as negative experiences). So let’s try it for ourselves and see if it’s worth the buy!

The E’Tae Shampoo Bar is gentle enough to be used on infants because it has a tear-free formula and produces low to medium lather. It protects the hair’s natural oils while removing dirt and parents have given this bar pretty good reviews.

  1. We love shampoo bars and have used the Ethique brand for travel. Just the regular kind. I have been contemplating switching at home as I don’t like all the plastic. Even More incentive with all the great kid options out there.

  2. Just wondering if these options consider kiddos with sensitive eyes. One shampoo bar I used on my kid had her screaming. It wasn’t geared toward kids, just something I picked up for myself and used on her when we ran out of her shampoo.

    • Hi Molly. E’Tae (the very last bar in this article) claims to be tear-free and many parents have backed this claim in reviews. Unfortunately, many shampoo bars will irritate the eyes because bars have a higher Ph due to the oil ingredients used in making bars. Traditional baby shampoo doesn’t create tears because they dilute and omit certain chemicals, which bars can’t really do or else they wouldn’t even be able to create a lather or clean the scalp properly. The best thing to do is just to be careful. You can buy one of those visors that protects the face when rinsing. But, I would definitely also look into the E’Tae brand and see if it works for you!
