Choosing a pacifier for your baby can be quite confusing—there are just somanyout there.
And even if you think you’ve purchased “the one”, your new baby will most likely hate it. It happens, and it’s ok. There will be a lot of trial and error in your motherhood journey.
That’s why I encourage all new moms to introduce a natural rubber pacifier to their babies in lieu of silicone. And there are many reasons for this that just make sense—especially if you are breastfeeding. Let’s look at some below.
How Are Natural Rubber Pacifiers Different From Silicone
Unlike silicone pacifiers, natural rubber pacifiers mimic the shape and softness of a mother’s breast. This flexible and stretchy material creates an easy back-and-forth transition for a breastfed baby.
Natural rubber pacifiers are also eco-friendly, sustainable and biodegradable. They are made with minimal ingredients, and do not require a plastic frame with handle).
With that said, the manufacturing process leaves out parabans, phthalates, BPA, and other unhealthy additives.
How To Sterilize A Natural Rubber Pacifier
Natural rubber pacifiers need to be sterilized like any other pacifier. However, because they are made from natural material, it is best to boil them just once (before initial use) to prevent damage from the high heat.
Future sterilization requires that you put the pacifiers in a bowl, and simply pour boiling water over them. This scalding method is a gentle yet thorough way to kill germs and bacteria without damaging your natural rubber pacifiers.
Put the pacifiers in a clean bowl
Pour them with boiling water
Let the pacifiers soak for approx. 5 min.
Pick them up and let them dry
How Often Should I Replace A Natural Rubber Pacifier?
Since natural rubber pacifiers don’t last as long as their silicone competitor, you will need to change your baby’s pacifier every 4-8 weeks.
The nipples of natural rubber pacifiers will eventually expand, change shape and even turn gooey, so it’s very important to have another one on hand, and switch it out as soon as you see this type of wear.
But giving your baby a pacifier that’s safe for both them and the planet is well worth a few new swaps!
With that said, below are 5 most trusted natural rubber pacifier brands that moms and babies love!

At the end of each day, my kids enjoy a nice warm bath—mainly because they get to play with their favorite bath toys. And mom gets to ask them questions about their day while getting to relax and sit for a while—even if it’s on the toilet lid.
But, it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I started to swap out plastic bath toys for safer alternatives, so don’t feel bad if you’ve just started doing the same. If it makes you feel better, my kids had McDonald’s Happy Meal toys floating around in their bath water—and I didn’t know any better.
Then one day I read about plastic bath toys and how they leached chemicals in hot water and I decided to throw all of them out, and went shopping for non-toxic alternatives instead.
Why Should I Avoid Plastic Bath Toys?
A majority of plastic bath toys are made from PVC and contain some really toxic hormone disrupting chemicals that aren’t safe for anyone—let alone babies and young children.
When these plastic toys make contact with hot water, they start to leach chemicals like cadmium, lead and pthalates, which young children (especially babies and toddlers) absorb via skin and mouth.
That’s why it’s so important to be mindful and make eco-conscious choices when shopping for bath toys.
Things To Consider When Shopping For Bath Toys
When shopping for eco-friendly bath toys, there are several important things to consider:
Avoid toys that contain PVC, Pthalates and BPA (look for the recycling symbol #3 and you’ll know it’s PVC)
Choose toys made from natural rubber, food-grade silicone, stainless steel or wood.
Choose toys with sealed holes to prevent the accumulation of stagnant water and saliva which results in mold.
With that said, it’s time to ditch the plastic bath toys, and start using non-toxic and eco-friendly alternatives instead!
And to help you find a true non-toxic bath toy, I’ve put together a list of green brands that make some of the cutest ones, so that your little ones can enjoy some safe sensory play!

When your toddler finally begins to show signs that they are ready to begin potty training, you can ensure their success by choosing the right potty for them to practice on.
Potty training always begins with an introduction to a potty chair or adult toilet with a potty seat attached, and each has its own set of pros and cons.
It’s important to know that there is no right or wrong choice when purchasing a potty training device, and it all comes down to what you and your child are most comfortable using.
In my household, my son potty trained using a potty seat, while my daughter used a potty chair. My son was always a tall child, and sitting on the adult toilet with a portable potty seat made him feel more comfortable. My daughter, on the other hand, is petite, so the height of mom’s toilet was a bit intimidating for her.
So, to help you decide on what might work best for your household, I’ve listed all the advantages and disadvantages to using a potty chair and a potty seat.
POTTY CHAIR
Pros Of Using Potty Chairs
Portable and easily accessible—can be placed in any room of the house.
Less intimidating and easier to use than a full-size toilet.
Less scary because it does not flush and make a loud noise.
They are safer than toilet rings because they are lower to ground—reducing any risk of injury.
Cons Of Using Potty Chairs
Potty chairs have to be cleaned manually—poop takes extra effort to clean out because it sticks to the plastic.
They are bulky which means that they can take up floor space in a small bathroom, and can be inconvenient to travel with.
Even if your child masters the potty chair, they will eventually have to transition to the toilet—the beginning of another challenge.
Potty Seats are much easier to clean up because waste goes straight into the toilet.
They are travel friendly because they’re flat and can be stowed into a tote bag.
They facilitate an easier transition to the toilet because your child is already used to sitting on it.
Cons Of Using Potty Seats
Toilet rings must stay in bathroom, and aren’t as convenient as potty chairs which can be used in other parts of the house.
Using a potty seat requires the need for a sturdy step stool to be placed next to the toilet so that your child can have easy access.
The height of mom and dad’s toilet can be intimidating to your child and this can deter them from using it.
The height of an adult toilet can also be unsafe. If the potty ring isn’t sturdy, or if a child squirms too much, they can fall off and hurt themselves.

Aside from being totally adorable and wallet friendly, cloth diapers can be very intimidating for many curious parents who are considering switching over from disposables.
After all, there are about 8 different cloth diaper styles on the market right now (possibly more), and each design has a different fit. So how do you know which cloth diaper will work best for your baby?
First, let’s go over all the different styles that are available to you.
What Are The Different Styles Of Cloth Diapers?
Flat Diapers
Flat diapers predate all diapers. They are a single layer of cloth (typically cotton or bamboo), and they need to be folded into multiple layers for absorbency. They are economical, but the downside to flat diapers is that they can leak without a cover, and they require safety pins to secure them in place.
Pre-FoldDiapers
Prefold diapers are rectangular pieces of cloth with multiple layers of fabric for absorption, and can be used inside pocket diapers or reusable covers. Prefolds are economical, versatile, flexible and easy to wash. However, they can be bulky, inconvenient, and must be upgraded in size as baby grows.
Fitted Cloth Diapers
Fitted cloth diapers resemble a disposable diaper in that they have an hourglass shape, leg elastics to keep messes contained, and they are easy to fasten. The downside to fitted cloth diapers is that they are not waterproof, and you need to purchase covers; they are also more expensive than prefold diapers.
Pocket Diapers
Pocket diapers are cloth diapers that contain a waterproof cover and inner pocket that can be stuffed with absorbency layers—like prefolds or inserts. They can grow with your baby and come in really cute designs. The downside to pocket diapers is that they can leak, they tend to be bulky, and stuffing/removing inserts can be inconvenient.
All-In-One Diapers (AIO)
All-In-One diapers have a simple design with a trim fit that prevents leaks, and they are made with several absorbency layers along with a waterproof outer shell. They are considered the most convenient reusable diapers for daycares, and can be used throughout the potty training stage as well. The downside to All-In-One diapers is that they are expensive and take longer to dry.
All-In-2 Diapers(AI2)
All-In-2 cloth diapers are very similar to pocket diapers. They contain a waterproof outer shell, but the inserts snap inside of the diaper instead of getting placed inside of a pocket. Parents love these reusable diapers because most of the time (unless there’s a blow out, you only need to swap out the insert.
Hybrid Cloth Diapers
Hybrids are a cross between disposable and cloth diapers. They have a flexible design, a waterproof shell, and can use any absorbency layer (cloth or disposable). These cloth diapers are also cost-effective, daycare friendly, and travel-friendly. The downside to hybrid cloth diapers is that some designs can leak, and beginners might find them a bit complicating.
What Are The Benefits Of Using Cloth Diapers
Cloth Diapers Save Money
Cloth diapers are reusable, which means that while you may fork up a descent amount of money in the beginning, you’ll actually end up saving money in the long run. Depending on the brand, the average household spends between $600-$900 a year on disposable diapers—and you’ll keep spending this amount yearly until they are potty trained.
So if you’re buying premium disposable diapers and your little one is a stubborn potty trainer like mine were, you’ll waste thousands of dollars on single-use diapers throughout the years that you’re just going to throw out. Investing in a $300 cloth diaper stash sounds a lot better, doesn’t it?
Cloth Diapers Are Non-Toxic
Cloth diapers are hypoallergenic and don’t cause skin issues such as chemical burns, rashes or dermatitis. A majority of disposable diapers are packed full of toxic chemicals (including fragrance) that are actually harmful to your baby and their sensitive skin. Cloth diapers are breathable and lined with gentle and non-toxic fabric such as cotton, hemp, and bamboo.
Cloth Diapers Are Zero Waste
While they do use up much more water due to laundering, cloth diapers are zero-waste because they do not need to be discarded like disposable diapers, and can be reused for many years if cared for properly.
How Many Cloth Diapers Do I Need?
The amount of cloth diapers that you will need depends on the age of your baby and how often you plan on doing laundry.
Many cloth diaper brands recommend about 24-26 diapers for a newborn, 20-22 diapers for a baby who is 3-12 months, 16-18 diapers for a 12-24 month old, and 12-14 for an older toddler who is potty training. This is based on an “every other day” laundry routine.
But, because of the overwhelming number of diaper changes in the newborn stage, many parents postpone switching over to cloth diapers until their baby is around 4-6 months old—and that’s understandable.
Do Daycare Centers Allow Cloth Diapers?
When it comes to cloth diapers and childcare facilities, each daycare center is different. Most daycare centers in the United States allow cloth diapers, and there aren’t any state or federal rules that prohibit daycares from allowing cloth diapers.
When it comes to diaper style, if your little one is attending daycare and the facility does indeed allow cloth diapers, then the all-in-one style is the easiest reusable style for daycare workers to manage (they won’t need to struggle with inserts and diaper changes will be quick and easy).
What Type Of Cloth Diaper Is Best Overall?
Cloth diapers are like infant formula—not all brands will work for your baby and you’ll most likely need to try a few different styles before you find one that works best.
I will recommend, however, that it’s best to choose brands that strive to make their cloth diapers as non-toxic, eco-friendly and hypoallergenic as possible—because babies have sensitive skin.
The GroVia cloth diaper brand offers almost every type of cloth diaper imaginable. From prefolds to the all-in-one design and everything in between (including cloth trainers for toddlers who are starting potty training). GroVia also strives to be as eco-friendly as possible—lining their diapers and trainers with absorbable layers made of hemp, bamboo and organic cotton.
Charlie Banana is a 2-in-1 reusable fleece cloth diapering system that grows with your baby. In other words, it’s a one size diaper with adjustable sizing straps and snug fit straps. Inserts can be placed inside or over the pocket, and the brand offers inserts made of fleece, cotton, bamboo and disposable. Charlie Banana is Climate Neutral and a member of 1% for the Planet.
The Lil Helper cloth diapers are perhaps the best for beginners. While most cloth diaper companies upsell their inserts, you’ll be ecstatic to know that Lil Helper includes inserts with every diaper, and they’re absorbent straight out of the box. These diapers contain 2 guide snaps for a good fit, a stain-free diaper cover lining, and dark colored anti-microbial inserts that snap right in. Lastly, the Lil Helper cloth diapers contain a PUL belly band to prevent wicking, which is perfect for belly sleepers.
The AlvaBaby brand is a nice budget-friendly alternative to most other cloth diaper brands, and there are a ton of fabric designs to choose from. The “one-size”pocket diapers come with (2) 3-layer microfiber inserts that draw moisture away from baby’s skin, and the adjustable snaps allow the diapers to grow with your baby.
The Thirsties [one size] All-In-One cloth diapers are great for babies and toddlers who like to unfasten their diapers thanks to a combination of hook & loop and snap closures! These diapers contain a built-in 3 layer microfiber terry soaker that absorbs an incredible seven times its weight in liquid. The soaker is topped with a stay-dry microfleece which keeps your baby feeling dry, and an additional layer of terry lies between the microfleece and TPU body of the diaper providing a last line of defense.
The eco-chíc looking Bambino Mio Miosolo All-In-One Reusable Cloth Diapers are super soft and the one-size design means it will grow with your little one from baby to toddler. It also contains an inner pocket for inserts to maximize absorbency for heavy wetters. The material is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified which ensure that they are safe to use on baby’s sensitive skin.
This hidden gem is not as well known as the brands above, but it is well worth the buy for many reasons. They are a small family-owned business, and all of their diapers come with 4-layer bamboo viscose inserts and wet bags. Bamboo inserts absorb more than microfiber and do not cause compression leaks. You can get a 7 cloth diaper bundle for under $70, making these the most affordable cloth diapers on this list. They have a ton of different fun fabric designs, and are available on Amazon.

It’s official! Stroller wagons are here to stay!
Let’s face it, the average stroller is meant for flat sidewalks—not for rugged terrain—which makes it a bit difficult for adventurous family outings.
If you’re a parent of multiple young children, and you want a convenient way to enjoy the outdoors, you’re going to need some better equipment—you’re going to want a stroller-wagon hybrid.
What Is A Stroller Wagon?
Stroller wagons are a transportation device for babies and young children. They offer the safety and convenience of a stroller, while allowing your child to experience fun and adventure.
What Are The Benefits Of A Stroller Wagon?
Parents are investing in foldable wagons for many great reasons.
Stroller wagons are built for outdoor recreation and contain all-terrain wheels for tackling rugged terrain like hills, bumpy roads and soft sand.
Stroller wagons allow children with disabilities to participate in activities that might otherwise be too difficult for them to experience.
Foldable wagons with canopies are convenient for sporting events, and can help reduce noise and over-stimulation.
Also, while conventional strollers are meant to be pushed forward, stroller-wagon hybrids can be pushed and pulled—giving caretakers more versatility when it comes to movement.
At What Age Can A Baby Ride In A Stroller Wagon?
Because a stroller wagon requires that a child be able to sit up and use a safety harness, they are not recommended for babies under 6 months of age.
However, many tactical strollers let you purchase accessories which allow you to attach a car seat—making it easy for parents to transport both a toddler and a young baby simultaneously.
What Should I Look For In A Stroller Wagon?
Stroller wagons come in a variety of sizes and styles to meet your lifestyle and physical needs. Some are lightweight and aesthetically simple, while others are a tad bit heavier and rigged with an eco system of accessories.
Safety Features
When shopping for a stroller wagon, make sure that the brand and model meet all the necessary safety guidelines and contain safety features such as brakes and safety harnesses.
Weight Capacity
The importance of this feature will depend on how many children you will be placing into your stroller wagon. Some wagons can support up to 110 pounds, while others can carry up to 300lbs. Hence, make sure you choose a wagon that can grow with your little ones, and can support as much weight as possible.
Canopy
Not all stroller wagons come equipped with a canopy—in fact, some require that you purchase them as add ons. But, if you’re going to be spending a lot of time outdoors, it is a good idea to purchase a wagon with sun protection.
Below are 5 of the best stroller-wagon hybrids on the market that parents are loving right now.

An Eco-Minded Parents’ Guide To Non-Toxic Cribs With Safety Certifications
This post contains affiliate links which may earn us a commission.
Babies deserve a safe and healthy sleep environment, and because they’ll be spending a good amount of time in their nursery, it’s important for parents to consider non-toxic furniture—especially when it comes to cribs.
Today’s parents are more eco-minded when shopping for nursery furniture—because they know that eco-friendly furniture is made with non-toxic chemicals, and will contribute to cleaner air quality within the home (especially because a lot of baby furniture is made with formaldehyde, which is a toxic chemical linked to allergies, asthma and even cancer).
Seasoned parents also know that when babies start to go through the teething process, they will eventually start to mouth and chew on crib rails—so it’s crucial to choose a crib that contains natural wood and a non-toxic finish, to prevent toxins from entering their baby’s body.
Why Choose An Eco-Friendly Crib For Your Nursery?
Aside from the fact that eco-friendly cribs are non-toxic and contribute to better air quality in your child’s bedroom, eco friendly cribs are also sustainably sourced and responsibly manufactured.
The non-toxic cribs recommended within this article are all natural wood, and made from sustainably sourced New Zealand Pine, which is one of the most sustainable and renewable wood resources in New Zealand, and other sustainably harvested wood such as beechwood, walnut and more.
What Should You Look For When Shopping For A Non-Toxic Crib?
Because anyone can “greenwash” a product and claim that it’s non-toxic and eco-friendly, it’s important to look for reputable certifications which prove that a crib has indeed met, and/or, exceeded safety standards and emissions testing.
One of the best “green” certifications that a crib can have is a GREENGUARD certification. Cribs that are GREENGUARD Certified, have been tested for over 10,000 chemical emissions and volatile organic compounds. Not all cribs and nursery furniture will have this certification, but will come close (as long as they’re tested by a third party).
When it comes to product safety, it’s important that cribs meet or exceed CPSC requirementsthrough 3rd party testing, and conduct annual testing with the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA).
Now, let’s take a look below at some of the safest and environmentally friendly crib brands for your little one to enjoy! You’ll find that our picks are practical, functional and stylish!

Why Is It So Crucial To Switch To Sustainable And Organic Fashion?
Did you know that most children’s clothing is still treated with hormone disrupting flame retardant and carcinogenic chemicals like Azo dyes during the production process?
Unfortunately, this is how the textile industry operates—especially because ”fast-fashion” is in high demand and corporate greed far outweighs any consideration for consumer wellbeing—even a child’s.
Baby skin is thinner than that of an adult, and children in general don’t develop that thick adult-like skin until they reach puberty. So, until they do, their delicate skin is more susceptible to a plethora of hormone disrupting chemicals that can be found in many popular clothing brands.
And since fast fashion isn’t slowing down anytime soon (as much as we would like for it to)—we, as parents, have to do a little extra work and find alternative clothing brands that are void of any hazardous chemicals.
Personally, I’m fine with doing a little extra research.
What Fabrics Are Best For Babies And Toddlers?
Since babies and toddlers have delicate skin, it’s best to choose eco-friendly fabric that’s as natural and organic as possible.
Natural plant-based fabric such as organic cotton, hemp, linen and bamboo are all excellent choices when it comes to dressing your baby and toddler because they are all breathable, don’t require the use of pesticides, and are hypoallergenic.
Bamboo viscose is a personal favorite of mine because in addition to being hypoallergenic, it is also anti-microbial and naturally uv resistant.
Now that you know why sustainable children’s fashion is such a big deal, let’s take a look below at a few of our favorite sustainable clothing brands that both you and your child will love!

With my first child, I didn’t consider buying a wrap or ring sling because, to be honest, these cloth baby carriers looked like a lot of work.
For many first time moms who are not familiar with baby wraps, all of that tying can appear pretty intimidating, and can even create understandable fear and anxiety that your precious cargo will accidentally fall through.
However, after getting tired of lugging around a 20-30 pound car seat with me every time I went out to the grocery store, I decided to give babywearing a try—and it was one of the best “baby gear” purchases I’ve made.
What Are The Benefits Of Babywearing?
Babywearing mimics the womb, which reduces stress for your little one, allowing baby to feel calm and secure. That’s why certain styles of baby wraps are wonderful tools for skin-to-skin contact and soothing fussy babies.
Babywear also allows you to multitask by freeing up your hands! You can get things done around the house, or run errands while your baby is snuggled securely against your body. When I finally decided to wear my baby, a trip to the grocery store was much more pleasant—my wrap even had a pocket on the front where I was able to store my baby’s pacifier.
Lastly, babywear helps increase mom’s milk supply and even helps reduce baby’s spit-up after feedings because they’re resting in an upright position.
What Is The Weight Requirement For Babywear?
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), slings and wraps are intended for infants and toddlers between 8 and 35 pounds.
Babies younger than 4 months of age are still developing neck muscles, and babywear can put your baby in a position where their breathing can become obstructed.
Hence, please take caution and always monitor your baby to make sure that they are not in a curled up position, or have their chin down when being worn in a wrap, sling or other hybrid.
Which Babywear Style Is Best?
Baby carriers are constantly evolving, but typically range from unstructured hammock-shaped varieties to lengthy fabric that wrap around the body. There are also hybrids that offer a combined set of features.
Choosing the right baby carrier depends on baby’s age and weight. For example, a wrap was better in the first few months of my baby’s life because it was tight and allowed me to keep baby’s head more upright. It was also better for skin to skin contact.
Later on, as my baby grew and developed better head control, I was able to add a ring sling into the mix, which didn’t make me feel as sweaty during summer months. That’s because baby wraps tend to be a little thicker—trapping heat (at least that’s how it was for me).
Lastly, now a days, hybrid carriers are available which don’t require any tying or adjustment, and are the perfect fit for parents (like dads) who might feel self-conscious or intimidated to wear a fancy ring sling or over-complicated baby wrap.
Now that you’re familiar with the basics of babywearing and all of the different carrier styles, let’s look at my favorite brands that make their baby carriers in a responsible way and with non-toxic material to keep your precious one happy and healthy.
