How I Found The Perfect Suit

I won’t lie, it was very frustrating trying to find the perfect first holy communion suit for my son. And that’s because compared to the many first communion dresses that are sold online, there really aren’t very many suit options for boys (and the few suits that are available, are very cookie-cutter).

Since this is a once in a lifetime event, I wanted my son to have a suit with a little bit of a “wow factor”. I wanted texture, I wanted a subtle design. Nothing too fancy, but definitely something that stood out.

After what seemed like hours of scrolling through both Etsy and Amazon, I finally found a suit that was sold on Amazon, and it came arrived from the United Kingdom in less than a week.

I was pleasantly surprised because the shipping estimate said “4-6 weeks”, but much to my surprise, it arrived 4 days after I clicked that order button.

How I Chose The Right Size

The seller whom I ordered from on Amazon is called SIRRI, and they are a UK based clothing company that designs and manufactures children’s and men’s occasional and casual wear.

The Suit is available from 1T to 15 years, and they have a sizing chart so that you can choose the correct suit size. This made me super nervous because I really wanted to get the correct size on the first try.

Luckily, I had some measuring tape on hand, so I measured his arms, legs, and waste, and then ordered one size up. It’s always better to get a suit that’s a few centimeters bigger (which you can always hem), than to get something that ends up being too tight and makes your child uncomfortable.

With that said, on the chart, my son fit the size 10 criteria, but I ordered the 11 and it fit perfectly, so I’m glad I went with my gut.

My 9 year old son is 4’6” and weighs 73 pounds, so the size 11 ended up being the perfect size.

What’s Included With The Suit

This charming 5 piece holy communion suit includes a jacket, a matching swirl design waistcoat and tie, one shirt and trousers. The single breasted jacket is fully lined, and has a double vent on the back. The waistcoat comes with four buttons and has a plain satin back.

The tie clips together around the back of the neck, which I love because it’s super convenient. And I love the swirl design and texture of the vest, which matches the little hanky that comes tucked into the front pocket of the suit.

My son looks incredibly handsome in this suit, and I couldn’t be happier with this purchase.

When you come across a family owned sustainable fashion brand with amazing designs, you have to give it a chance and add a piece or two to your child’s capsule wardrobe—which is what happened when I came across the adorable Little & Lively kids’ sustainable fashion line from The Kindred Studio.

This year as I went through and decluttered my daughter’s closet, I took a long hard look at all of her apparel and realized that much of it wasn’t even put to use. And I was going to start this endeavor with Little & Lively.

Quite possibly our favorite, these overalls are as comfortable as wearing pajamas, and the straps can be adjusted to grow with your child. I see my daughter wearing these for at least two more years, and I LOVE that I can pair them with any shirt. I also love the earthy burgundy color and big front pocket. If you are carrying twins or multiple babies, the best time to participate in a maternity photoshoot is around the beginning of your second trimester. That’s because carrying multiple babies makes your belly grow at a faster pace, and you’re most likely going to deliver early as well.

One of the most common questions that many photographers get asked is what color dress works best in a maternity photo shoot? And believe it or not, there are actually certain colors that do better than others.

The color red, for example, comes out looking beautiful because it contrasts well against many backgrounds—especially if your photography session is out in nature.

The sustainable fashion industry has been making huge strides in the past few years—but, it has an underserved demographic: big and tall men.

Our Experience With A Big Boy Bamboo Tee

I recently ordered a Big Boy Bamboo t-shirt for my husband primarily because we’re working on making our wardrobes minimal and sustainable. Bamboo tees are both durable and eco-friendly, so they fit right in as the essential basics that every wardrobe needs.

I also read that clothing made from bamboo viscose is hypoallergenic. So if you have sensitive skin that’s prone to rash or back breakouts, this fabric is a fantastic alternative to synthetic, pore clogging fabrics.

First Impressions

You know how when you first un-box new clothing, and a weird smells enters your nostrils? That wasn’t the case when we received our Big Boy Bamboo T-shirt. That’s because bamboo doesn’t require any pesticides, and goes through a less rigorous manufacturing process—resulting in non-toxic fabric with zero stink.

As far as feel, we are so used to the slightly rough texture of cotton, that we were taken aback with how silky smooth the bamboo viscose felt at first touch. They also feel lightweight and breathable when worn!

We ordered the t-shirt in black, and the color is very rich and vibrant—most likely due to the fact that bamboo viscose absorbs dyes a lot better than cotton. And if washed properly, the color will not fade.

Big Boy Bamboo tees also feel a lot cooler when worn. It was a pretty warm afternoon here in Florida the other day, and my husband liked how much cooler he felt in direct sunlight when we went on an outing with the kids.

Overall, this t-shirt was an excellent buy, and I can’t wait to order more for my husband’s new ”sustainable” stash. I am also looking forward to Big Boy Bamboo’s future product line expansion!

As a mom of two, I’ve become quite familiar with a few sustainable clothing brands that make fabulous organic and eco-friendly kids’ clothing for every type of budget.

What Is Sustainable Children’s Fashion?

Sustainable children’s fashion is anything that has been purchased secondhand, or made ethically, responsibly and doesn’t add to pollution.

In other words, sustainable fashion for kids has been created in a way that is mindful of environmental issues, and ensures that all workers involved are paid fair wages.

Sustainable children’s fashion is also made to last, can be re-used or re-sold, and is hypoallergenic because of the organic material that was used in making each piece of fabric.

What Eco-Friendly Fabrics Are Best For Children?

Since babies and toddlers have delicate skin, it’s best to choose eco-friendly fabric that’s as natural and organic as possible.

Baby skin is thinner than that of an adult, and children in general don’t develop that thick adult-like skin until they reach puberty. So, until they do, their delicate skin is more susceptible to a plethora of hormone disrupting chemicals that can be found in many popular clothing brands.

Natural plant-based fabric such as organic cotton, hemp, linen and bamboo are all excellent choices when it comes to dressing your children because they are all breathable, don’t require the use of pesticides, and are hypoallergenic.

Bamboo viscose is a personal favorite of mine because in addition to being hypoallergenic, it is also anti-microbial and naturally uv resistant.

Why Is Sustainable Kids’ Fashion So Expensive?

If you’ve noticed that sustainable fashion brands are a bit more expensive, there’s a good reason behind that!

As consumers, we are accustomed to paying very little for fast fashion, so when we see an ethically made item for double (or triple the cost), we become almost offended.

The reality is that sustainable fashion is more expensive because the costs need to cover the responsibly sourced material and fair wages of workers (who are oftentimes taken advantage of by fast fashion brands).

How To Buy Sustainable Kids’ Clothing On A Budget

Buying sustainable children’s clothing on a budget is easier than you think, and there are several things you can do to snag some great ethical fashion at a low cost!

One of my favorite ways to acquire sustainable children’s clothing is by shopping for it secondhand—whether it’s a local thrift store or an online secondhand boutique—then filling in the gaps with new pieces as part of my child’s capsule wardrobe!
